Heat Distribution Matters

Radiators or Underfloor heating?

At Midland Renewables, we offer both radiators and underfloor heating solutions. Underfloor heating is ideal for new builds without existing radiators, as retrofitting can be disruptive and expensive. For most retrofits, radiators are the more cost-effective choice unless you're planning major floor renovations. While underfloor heating can be more efficient in the long run, its higher initial cost often makes it less popular. If you're building a new home, consider underfloor heating for the ultimate comfort when installed by professionals. We are happy to design to your specification, so get in touch and let us get you at the sweet spot for home living.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)

Why let valuable heat escape?

MVHR systems improve your home's air quality and comfort by providing fresh, filtered air and maintaining a stable indoor temperature. They capture heat from outgoing air to warm incoming air, achieving up to 93% efficiency. Ideal for well-insulated homes, they enhance energy efficiency and reduce pollutants, making your home healthier and more enjoyable.

Frequently asked questions

How long does installation take?

Installing your air source heat pump system usually takes about 4 days. This timeframe can vary based on the installation's complexity. We will provide a detailed schedule and try to make sure you always have central heating and hot water.

Do I need new radiators?

You don't always need new radiators; they just improve efficiency. Most double panel or double fin radiators work well. It's usually the old single or no fin radiators that need upgrading.

Do I need a hot water cylinder?

Yes, hot water cylinders are a crucial part of your Air Source Heat Pump setup. They're responsible for keeping a large volume of water ready for you to use for your baths, showers or central heating. You also need one to qualify for the government BUS grant.

Will I qualify for the £7,500 grant?

In most cases, YES! Most domestic customers are able to benefit for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. We will apply for this on your behalf prior to installation. All you need is an up to date EPC (which, if out of date, are about £40)

Will my water be hot enough?

Yes. Air source heat pumps can reach up to 75 degrees Celsius, even when it's -10 degrees outside. For comparison, a very hot shower is about 40 degrees.
